The E16 is perfect for short distance specialists, and for those wishing to enjoy a shorter trail at their leisure! The trail starts out towards the Wetterhorn and when it reaches Wittegg (above Bort) at 1600m, the max altitude is almost already in the bag. From here, the trail leads through alternating sections of forest, small gorges and sweeping meadows via Bort, Nodhalten and Holewang, ending with a spritely downhill back into Grindelwald.
The trail is so well located that it is possible for you to hike or to train on for around 8 months of the year, weather conditions permitting. Since December 2016, the E16 route is marked.
A good physical condition and some experience in trail running are essential for tackling the E16. In addition, as a competitor you must be able to complete the race in a partial self-sufficiency according to the ethics of trail running. We reserve the rights to exclude persons from participating in the race.

Start 1: Saturday, 17 July 2027 at 09:00 Start 2: Saturday, 17 July 2027 at 09:30
Finish: Saturday, 17 July 2027 at 13:30 (Time limit 4 hrs). Allocation to the starting blocks is based on the height of the UTMB Index. Runners with a higher UTMB Index start in the first starting block, runners with a low or no UTMB Index start in the second block. The starting block will be showed in the runners myUTMB Profile one week prior the event. The allocated start time must be adhered to. Disregard to do so will result in a time penalty. If you wish to start in the same block as your friends please send a request to eigerultratrail@service.byutmb.world until 21 june 2027.
As a competitor you have to leave the check-point before the time limit, regardless of your arrival time at the check-point.

E16 runners must carry the following compulsory equipment with them throughout the race:
The cup must have a size of at least 15 cl/5oz and must not have a lid. For the sake of the environment, disposable cups are no longer used at refreshment stations.
